Obituaries
Truskowski


Mr. Edward “Edz” Truskowski, age 63, of Rockford passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2008.

After graduating in 1963 from West Catholic High School, he enlisted in the Air Force and served during Vietnam. On October 19, 1968, Ed and Dawn were married. When his children were little, he went back to school and attended Davenport College.

For 29 years, Ed worked as a manager/supervisor at Cutler Manufacturing. After that he worked for 12-1/2 years at Rockford Public Schools.

For many years Ed’s passion was working the chain gang at the Rockford High School football games. Ed loved being a part of the football tradition in Rockford.

He is survived by his loving wife, the former Dawn Bogart; children, Heather (Tony) Fitzpatrick of Brookfield, Ill., Bret Truskowski (Melissa Stoffer) of Grand Rapids; grandson, Stephen Edward Fitzpatrick; brother, David (Dorothy) Truskowski; sister, Carol (Frank) Stanaszak; Dawn’s family, Larry (Kathy) Bogart; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lottie Truskowski and Edward Stanley Truskowski, and Aunt Helen Gierbowicz.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Ed was offered at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church with Monsignor Leo S. Rosloniec presiding. Interment was in Blythefield Memory Gardens. The Rosary was prayed on Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Cancer Research at University of Michigan Hospital.

Carter


Robert Allen Carter, 84, of the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans, Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday evening, August 6, 2008, at the Jacobetti Home.

Robert was born March 23, 1924, in Benton Harbor, son of Fred and Winifred (Bell) Carter, and was raised in Benton Harbor. He married his high school sweetheart, Elaine M. Seel of Benton Harbor, shortly after he enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Force in 1943, and they were husband and wife for 64 years. After the military, Bob graduated from Western Michigan University, and later received a master’s degree in education from University of Michigan. The couple resided in Oscoda from 1949 to 1952, then settled in Rockford where Bob was employed as a high school science teacher. In the ‘60s he taught at Kentwood in Grand Rapids and became an elementary school principal. In 1969, with a specialist degree from Michigan State University, Bob and Elaine moved to Marquette, where he taught audio visual at Northern Michigan University and Elaine later served as hostess at the Marquette Women’s Club. Bob and Elaine retired to Republic, Mich. in 1995 and, in June 2007, both moved into the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans where Elaine passed away peacefully on November 9, 2007, and Bob passed away on August 6, 2008. Bob was a member of the Marquette County Flying Club.

Bob is survived by two children, Barbara Giansanti of Grand Rapids, and David Carter and wife Joella Vitek of Altanta, Ga.; grandchildren and their families with seven great-grandchildren: Michael Giansanti of Jackson, Steve Giansanti of Geneva, Ill., and Zachary Carter of Atlanta, Ga.; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Committal will be at the Carter Family gravesite at the Millburg Cemetery in Millburg, Mich. on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be expressed online at dajoza@comcast.net or by mail to David Carter, 1671 Muriel Ave. NE, Atlanta, GA 30307.

Lindeen

Marcia Diane Lindeen, age 69, of Burnsville, Minnesota, formerly of Grand Rapids, Mich. passed away unexpectedly October 2, 2008. She was preceded in death by parents Edward and Margaret Miller, and brother Daniel Miller. She is survived by loving husband, Duane; children, Debra (Jon) Reischl, and Donna (Ryan) Harrington; grandchildren, Tavian and Gavin Harrington; also by many loving relatives and friends.

The funeral service was Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Community of Christ Church, 5990 134th St. Ct., Apple Valley, Minn. Visitation was Monday 5 to 8 p.m. at White Funeral Home, 14560 Pennock Ave., Apple Valley, Minn., and also one hour prior to the service at the church.

Houting

Mrs. Betty I. Seeley Houting, age 82, of Rockford passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2008.

After graduating from Rockford High School in 1944, Betty attended Grand Rapids Junior College and Blodgett School of Nursing. She was a very friendly person who was very meticulous about her appearance and was always appropriately dressed. Betty liked to keep herself busy and was involved in the Women’s Club of Cedar Springs, the United Methodist Women at Courtland-Oakfield United Methodist Church, and the Glenn Hill Ladies Auxiliary Unit #287.

She is survived by her children, Dan and Sue Houting of Sacramento, Calif.; grandchildren, Carrie and Bob Bannister of Dallas, Texas, Katherine and Bob Bloom of San Diego, Calif., Jonathan and Alison Houting of Sacramento, Calif., and Jason and Stephanie Houting of Sacramento, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Emily Bannister, Amanda Bannister, and Branden Bloom; brother, Larry (Nancy) Seeley; sister, Delores (Jack) Brouard; sister-in-law, Mrs. Marlys Seeley; and many nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Richard “Dick” Houting in May 1992; a daughter, Danielle; and her brothers, Max and Paul all preceded her in death.

The service for Mrs. Houting will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Courtland-Oakfield United Methodist Church, 10300 Myers Lake, Rockford, with Dr. Michael Conklin officiating. Interment will be in Courtland Twp. Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Memorial Fund at Courtland-Oakfield United Methodist Church.
