We are living in a time and in a place where it seems that there is uncertainty around us at every corner. We are less than a month from a Presidential election. The stock market, the job market, the value of the dollar, and the price of gas are continually fluctuating. It could be easy for us to feel that there is not certainty in anything, but that would not be correct. God remains a sure foundation for us and a certainty in whom we can put our hope and trust through anything in life.
In 1 Timothy 6:17 we find these words, “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”
Here we find a teaching for the rich to not put their hope in wealth, which is uncertain. The truth of the matter though, is that it is not only the “rich” who put their hope in wealth and money. The middle class and the poor sometimes put their hope in wealth or money as well. This is not a good thing, because it is so uncertain!
God, on the other hand, is one in whom we can put our hope and trust and know that we will not be disappointed. In Psalm 46:1 we find, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
In Psalm 18:2 it says, “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
God will always be there for us as we turn to Him, and we can count on that. Life seems to have with it great uncertainty sometimes, but in God we can always put our hope and trust. So, today and always, there is certainty in God!
